SAYWARD AND ASSEMBLY REPUBLICAN COLLEAGUES OUTLINE REAL SOLUTIONS
TO CLOSE NEW YORK'S BUDGET GAP
Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward (R,I – Willsboro) today joined with her Assembly Republican colleagues in outlining solutions to close New York’s $3.2 billion budget deficit.
“My colleagues and I have been calling for cooperation in order to bring about effective reform of our budget,” said Sayward. “We’ve been wasting time in Albany while New York spirals deeper into debt. My Conference has a comprehensive plan to eliminate wasteful state spending in order to close the budget gap. Now we must come together and do what is necessary for the people of our state. We must significantly cut spending, while taking care not to negatively affect education and health care.
Sayward and her colleagues have repeatedly called for action since the end of this year’s session because of growing concerns over the state’s massive debt. Her proposal would allow for the closure of state debt while preventing cuts to education, health care and local governments.
“We have finally been called back to Albany and now we must act to fix our budget,” Sayward stated. “This is our second week of Special Session and so far we haven’t done anything of consequence. We truly need to come together in a bi-partisan fashion and bring all viable ideas to the table in order to do what is best for New York.”
