SAYWARD: GOVERNOR'S BUDGET PROPOSAL A SMALL STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
I do not think the governor’s budget does quite enough to address growing unemployment in New York, but it does include a number of cost-saving solutions that my conference and I have long advocated for, including a ban on unfunded mandates, agency consolidation, and a down payment on property tax relief.
In addition, the governor has proposed a moratorium on the state purchase of land in the Adirondacks.
I will work hard to prevent the closure of Moriah Shock Correctional Facility. We can’t afford to lose any more jobs in the Adirondacks.
I am hopeful that we will be able to use this budget as a starting point toward greater fiscal responsibility in New York in order to create a brighter future for all who live and work here.
