SAYWARD ADDRESSES GOVERNOR'S BUDGET PROPOSAL
Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward (R,I – Willsboro), along with her Assembly Republican colleagues, met with Governor Paterson today to address his plan for the state budget. At the meeting, Sayward addressed her concerns about the North Country’s economy, as well as ways to stimulate small businesses and create jobs.
“I still hold out hope that we will be able to produce an on-time, fiscally-responsible budget, but this is crunch time, and we need to put all of our heads together to produce a sensible plan for New York’s future,” said Sayward.
The deadline for an on-time budget is only 16 days away, and with skepticism about where budget talks are headed, this meeting provided an opportunity for bipartisan collaboration, noted Sayward.
“I am thankful that Governor Paterson provided us with this opportunity to work together toward right-sizing New York’s budget. We need to address the issues that are crippling the North Country: skyrocketing tax bills, a lack of jobs, overregulation in the park and poor infrastructure that makes it very difficult to attract businesses,” Sayward stated. “As we move forward with budget negotiations, my colleagues and I must come together to do what is right for the people of New York.”
