SAYWARD: PARKS BILL WILL PROVE DISASTROUS FOR TAXPAYERS, BUSINESS
“Earlier this week when the governor announced legislation to keep our parks open, I had every intention to vote for the bill. However, I cannot in good conscience vote for the bill put before us tonight.
This bill will take $11 million from the general fund despite the lack of a budget. In addition, this bill will add about $14 million in taxes and fees onto our already struggling businesses. Environmental Groups, the Business Council and the Farm Bureau all oppose this bill, and in a time when economic stimulation is our top priority, passing legislation to further burden business is bad business.
Instead of sweeping funds and adding taxes and fees, we should instead explore the DEC’s model of cooperation and innovation to keep our parks open.”
